My World Photo Map

The map on this page shows all photographed locations found in the World in Pictures category. Each marker links to the relevant post or series.

This is not intended as a geotagging exercise. Urban walkabouts are represented by single pins; individual points of interest are separately marked only if they are the subject of a feature post, or if there is no overview essay for their respective city. Beyond urban boundaries, though, as many geographical locations as possible are indicated, even those with just a single visual.

Amber markers represent primarily regional anthology locations or small-set features. By definition, this is the largest bucket. A fair fraction of amber derives from my past preferences for writing teaser posts and sending visitors off to Flickr for the bulk of the pictures. (Flickr albums still exist, numbering over 5,000 shots, and are linked from corresponding old posts.)

Purple pins denote feature-post destinations with medium-sized photo sets. In some cases, these are major locations that had been last photographed before I changed my approach to including larger sets directly on the blog instead of uploading to an external service from mid-2019 onwards.

Red markers indicate well-photographed places. The somewhat arbitrary lower boundary of “well-photographed” is twenty-five pictures across one or several posts. Relatively recent explorations of major cities and some standalone points of interest account for most of the red markers.

As of mid-2026, there are 750 markers on this map. I always take pictures wherever I travel. New places are being added, and some pins change color over time. Stay tuned.
