Murals of Tinnura, Sardinia

Murals are a veritable feature of Sardinia. A quick online search yields a number of destinations on the island known for their extensive portfolios of wall decorations. We even had one of those villages specifically marked on our itinerary.

But although Tinnura does get a mention on a couple of lists of Sardinia mural villages, we did not target it for a visit. We just happened to drive through it and noticed these beauties along the main road.

So we stopped, got out of the car, and spent a little bit of time admiring the scenes of rural life interspersed with other decorative art.

Not all of Tinnura’s decorations depict the rural life or the people; some are simpler splashes of color.

There are also other forms or artistic expression in the center of village.

There is a good reason my preferred mode of exploring foreign destinations is by driving. You can encounter an unexpected delight such as Tinnura and you are not constrained in being able to enjoy it.

The village of San Gavino Monreale – the aforementioned targeted mural destination – will enjoy its own entry in one of the future installments of Sardinia retrospectives.
