Brugge is one of my favorite places in Europe, a picture-perfect place that you cannot help but want to linger around.
On our first visit to Brugge, we explored it on foot, in a horse-drawn carriage, and in a canal cruise boat. The latter passes through some fairly central areas of town that are effectively tucked away from the touristy hustle and bustle, given that the nearest pedestrian footpaths are a few dozen yards away. These bay windows looking out on the canal bring a measure of serenity to the otherwise busy locale. You can get physically close to them only on a boat.
I couldn’t see anyone sitting by the windows, but I always wondered if people who live in these houses ever considered it a free entertainment, watching the gawking tourists pass by in boats.
Nah, it would probably get old pretty quickly.
