YouTube’d memories: Woodpeckers from Space

Around the time that I was entering high school, breakdance was all the rage. The guys my age were always trying to outdo one another and impress the girls with their moves in discotheques. Breakdance carried the aura of rebellion – I don’t think that it was officially prohibited, but I witnessed many occasions of breakdance circles being dispersed by “authorities” in mid-dance and my high-school DJ list was censored for any techno-sound numbers.

For some reason, nothing reminds me of that time like Videokids’ Woodpeckers from Space. Even the video features a break-dancing cute little alien dude.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I’m not much of a dancer. Never learned a single breakdance move. Still got my fair share of girls, though. Being a DJ has its benefits…

You and I had very different high school experiences, I think.

I’ve never even heard of this song. I mostly missed the entire break dancing fad – and I’ve got to tell you I don’t feel deprived at all. 🙂

Jim, majority of the performers that appear in this series of mine should be largely – or completely – unknown in America. This particular Dutch pop duo only produced two albums and I only recall one other song of theirs, so they were pretty obscure even in Europe.
