Yay for snow. Not!

January 5th, 2009

A thin sheet of snow was lying on the ground this morning. Nothing to brag about, but at least I now have some evidence to renew the feeble claim that it does snow in Southeast London.

Of course, this is largely a bad thing. Not of the magnitude of snowstorms elsewhere, I grant you, but hey, if I want to complain about this, I should be able to. There is not enough of the stuff to make the streets look like a Winter Wonderland, but unsurprisingly enough of it to disrupt train services in the morning rush hour. It only takes one cancelled train to wreak havoc for a long period of time. On what was the first “regular” working day of the year, exacerbated by long lines at the ticket offices, it was very nearly intolerable.

Of course, that snow is pretty much all gone by now, barely 10:30 in the morning.

I’ve got lots if you want me to send you some. It even has a protective layer of ice on it. :)

Clearly there is something wrong in the world, when you have snow, and I have none. Yes, the Great White North may still be Great and may be North but sadly is not White.
    This makes me sad :(
Wanna send what you have left across the pond?

Just looked out the window, Kim, and there is nothing left! Sorry! I can take Shawn up on his offer to send me his surplus which I’ll then forward on to you. :P

We lost all of our snow with the sudden warm weather, so now all the snow I have in the yard is piled up along the street. We might get more tomorrow. It’s been a goofy winter, that’s for sure.

It snowed here over night and it has stayed all day! It’s too cold to melt. -5C tonight so I expect it will be icy tomorrow as well. It’s not nice to drive in, or walk to the bus in but it’s very pretty outside and tonight is crisp and clear.

You’re about 40 miles to the north from us as the crow flies, Cheryl. That must make all of the difference. The temperatures here have been hovering slightly above 0°C, and the little snow that fell overnight melted, as usual, quite quickly.
