123 meme

A very random meme, but a good illustration of the genre (which you can learn about here). Here are The Rules of this one:

  1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the next three sentences.
  5. Tag five people.

Let’s try it.

I am currently reading Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. The book is in my bag – cannot be any nearer to any other. At my currently possible pace of a dozen pages or so a day, I am still a few days away from page 123. Spoiler territory! But then, I’ve already watched the movie version. So, what’s the fifth sentence on page 123?

Your father was out a-hunting, but they got word to him and he came riding back in time to find your mother’s husband at the foot of the great staircase. Another moment and he’d have forced open the closet where the gyptian woman was hiding with you, but Lord Asriel challenged him, and they fought there and then, and Lord Asriel killed him.

The gyptian woman heard and saw it all, Lyra, and that’s how we know.

Wow, this actually is an explanation of sorts that was missing from the movie… For those of you who haven’t watched it, I am sure it has been slightly less illuminating.

For the final step, I’m still not completely comfortable with the idea of suggesting random activities to other people, but on the other hand, they get a free link to their websites from this. I hope none of them thinks that they owe me either a reciprocation or a completion of their own version of this meme.

The newly tagged are:

(In case you wonder, the two people most commonly referred to in my posts, Brian and Jason, have already been tagged, but – what the hell, I feel generous! – let them have a free link each as well).

Good luck, if you choose to play…
