Nothing much is going on

It’s all about your mind-set. A couple of days ago, having to slalom through the obstacle course of the cars blocking my way on a roundabout, I caught myself thinking, “This is kind of fun!”… Seriously, a car that handles well gets a workout on British roads like nowhere else. When you have to change lanes, swerve about or evade traffic-calming measures every few yards or so, it can even get exhilarating…

If only there were less traffic. No matter how well your car handles, it’s all for naught when the fastest you can go is just barely fast enough to keep you awake behind the wheel. Sometimes, not even that…

We are in a short “lull” week, between the Bath trip and the arrival of our next party of guests. There is very little going on right now.

Except for Becky going on a day trip to France with her class tomorrow. If there is a concept that makes me utterly revere our current state of being, it is this: A day-trip to France. What a concept!!!

Somewhat less exciting but nonetheless connected to the other side of La Manche was Natasha’s first French lesson at the same art school that Kimmy goes to for drawing lessons. Natasha had fun, although pretending to be an intermediate speaker may have been a stretch. As it always happens, when people in her group got a whiff of her being Russian in addition to being American, she became a center of attention and had not only to answer various questions in French related to her heritage, but also to demonstrate her ability to speak Russian. Guess which one was easier…

She acquainted herself quite well… or so she tells me…

Becky, in the meantime, has apparently become an ace goalkeeper in the game known as netball in England. It is not known as anything in America, being a more static and less athletically-demanding version of basketball. (Goalkeeper in basketball? Don’t ask!)

Since she was new to the sport, she was initially assigned to the “C” team in her age division, but now has been promoted to the “B” team. They lost their last competitive game against the rival school’s “B” team, but hear Becky tell it, it was not at all the goalie’s fault.

To be honest with you, I have as little idea as you do what the previous two paragraphs actually mean. And I happen to live here!…

Kimmy keeps impressing observers with her newfound confidence on the ice. Some people who had seen her skate last year are inquiring which skating camp she attended during summer… People are also asking where Becky is, and one Russian coach at the rink has even offered his assistance in getting her to resume figure skating training… I have a feeling that that is in the past, though…

As far as yours truly is concerned, I am surprisingly still sticking to my gym regimen, one month and counting. Can’t say that I see any difference in my physique or energy levels, but I am not ready to give up yet, so those of you making bets on when I’ll give up, – and I know who you are! – I’ll show you… or not.

As I said, nothing is going on…
