Zai jian (buh-bye in Mandarin)

Yes. I realise it’s a bit of a cheek saying good-bye when I haven’t been around much anyways. But that’s just me! Shall we get you up to speed on things?

Me and Ella didn’t win the costume competition. Our lovely friend Saoirse (Sersha) did instead. And if it had to be anyone, we’re glad it was her rather than a mere acquaintance. We were still very upset because we had put more effort into our costumes, especially me.

I have been working on World War One poetry (joy.) and have written my own little poem (actually it’s 8 verses) in honour of the topic. Plus, I had to for my homework. It’ll be on the main bit of the site because I feel people go there more often. The poem’s called ‘We will Return’ so look out for it.

I had my interhouse dance competition. Allow me to explain. In England we class each student (and teacher, but who cares) into a ‘House’. Yes, my Harry Potter fanatics, it’s just like that. In fact, my little sister’s school actually uses to Hogwarts names for them. My school’s a bit more original. So. Meridian is the Green house, the awesome house, the house that generally places 2nd or 3rd in competitions, the house I belong to. Vanbrugh is yellow and they are just like us in the scoring but obviously less cool. Paragon is blue and good at Drama and Dance but other than that, come last in everything. Sorry guys, but you know it’s true. Lastly, there’s Morden. They are red. They are amazing. They almost always win first place in absolutely everything.
Now back to the dance compo. Each class has a certain number of people belonging to each House in it. These people are forced to dance together. Last year, we had to choose a song from a musical. This year, we had to choose 2 styles of dance to do to a instrumental piece of music. It was harder this year. My group has 5 people in it including me and we decided to do Street and Ballet. Interesting combination, I know. Amy and I did ballet while Leah, Orla and Saoirse did street. Then halfway through we do a bit of both in unison. We danced to a slightly more street version of ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies’. We named our dance ‘The Green Sugar Plums’. Original, no?
Ballet people wore black leotards and green tutus (I think it was the first time in 5 years that so many people said ‘Awwww!’ to me) and street people wore black trousers, green shirts and hoodies. We were first up to dance and before you get excited, we didn’t win. But we did get to perform twice. They cut us short ‘cos they thought we had finished so we went again at the end. The winners were Paragon, second place was one Morden, third place was another. See what I said about Morden finding ways to still kinda win? They won both interhouse hockey and netball but I don’t really care ‘cos I scored 5 of the 10 goals into the basket so HA!

My last thing to say to you, is that I’m off to China. Hence the title. It’s a school trip! I cannot believe my school is going to CHINA! This would never happen in America. Anyways, I’m gonna take pics and stuff but I wanted you people to know that that is the reason I’m not writing. Instead of my normal laziness, I actually can’t blog.
Now please enjoy some Chinese characters I drew on Paint two years ago! I know you can’t read it but I can’t be bothered to tell you what it means at the current moment in time. Remind me later. BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Ha ha! See what I did there? Isn’t it funny…
Oh come ON! I’m talking about the genius word play! Yeesh! You just can’t put up jokes that require thinking can you, these days?

I’m sure everyone has missed my witty sarcastic superiority and feel like they cannot stand another day without brain testing jokes like the one above. Well YOU are all in luck. I’m finally writing something! Please hold the applause if you can manage it. I know you all love me but clapping is a nuisance and whoever invented it hates human ears.

Nothing big has really been happening lately which is why I haven’t written. And big things that have happened I either:
a) Can’t be bothered to write about because my fingers would get bored
b) Feel they are MY business
c) Have somehow forgotten ever since the aliens visited
Take your pick. I personally like that last one but whatever you choose, you’ll still never know the BIG thing. That is IF it exists…
So you will all be curious and junk or not care in the slightest. How about I just discuss recent happenin’s?

Well for one thing, Friday was book character dress up day. Now, as I may have said before, England notoriously sucks at Halloween. Book Day is my own personal alternative because there are plenty of things to dress up as even if we are a bit more restricted. Anyway, I like it more because you wear the outfit all day in school, which is better than just in front of mates or not at all. Let me tell you ’bout my outfit then, shall I? Can I just say that ‘Thank jam, they made a Mighty Book of Boosh!’ I mean, some people dress up as TV characters instead of books but that’s not as fun. Since the book was made, I didn’t break any rules by going as OL’ GREGG. And one of my best mates, Ella, went as THE HITCHER. They are both played by the same actor in the show (The Mighty Boosh) but we decided they both had to be honoured.
My outfit of Ol’ Gregg:
> White boots (I compromised with black)
> Green tights/leggings
> Pink tutu (I wore shorts under this)
> Black button up shirt (thank you one pound charity shops!)
> White tie (made out of paper during Spanish, and before this is commented on: I got 97% on my last test so a little goofing is okay)
> Silver jacket (I would like to thank Maddie g, Ella’s sister for lending me this because I couldn’t find one ANYWHERE)
> Seaweed hair (I used green hair spray)
> Green face (mix of blue and yellow face-paint and then some hairspray liquefied in a cup and painted on)
> Black mustache (eyeliner=good to go)
> Pink eyeshadow under the eyes
> Yelling out ‘I’m Old Gregg!’ once in a while (only about 10 people in the school actually knew who this was but I felt like saying it)
Below are some pictures of that glorious day. You should be able to tell which person is me from my descripiton (said in French accent for some reason). The first is from the balloon debate (we are all stuck in a hot air balloon, give speeches, and the audience votes on who doesn’t get kicked out) and the second is lovely-ly random. If anyone wants to know: Ella (The Hitcher) is second from the left on the second piccy.

I did not go on public transport dressed like this. I went in my shorts and leggings with my jacket on top and put on the tutu, face stuff and make-up in school. I have a feeling I might’ve had the best costume in my year. You cannot believe how many people put on a tutu and wings and call themselves a fairy. Oh, and leg-warmers as all fairies seem to be from the 80s these days.

In other news, I went to a sleepover on Saturday night and watched Tropic Thunder, Jackass and SKINS with Amy, Ella and Saoirse (Sersha). I had broken my amazing watch’s wrist band thing so I don’t know what time I fell asleep as I was wearing my other one…which doesn’t light up…and is hard to read even when it’s not dark. I think snoozy time was about 5-6am. Yea, that’s about it. I took two buses home at around 10.30am and that was that.

I hope you feel that a ketchup, of what’s been going on, has occurred and I bid you FAIR ADIEU! (Please tell me you got the word play this time. I mean I gave you a second chance and if you missed it again, then, well, good luck in life my friend.)
I’M OL’ GREGGGGGGG!

Cajun Flavoured Squirrel Anyone?

Posted on February 19, 2009 at 9:32 pm in

Yea. I’m not actually offering to give you a spicily flavoured squirrel. But I’ve tried it! Well, more or less…

Walkers Crisps have got a brilliant new advertising kick. They’ve made 6 new flavours that’ll be in stores ’till the end of April. But that’s not all! After trying the new ideas, you have to vote for your favourite one. The one with the most votes will become an actual addition to the Walkers family. The others will not. Which is a shame really, ‘cos almost all of them are amazing and will sadly be forgotten. This is my critique for the choices:

Crispy Duck and Hoisin:
Delicious, strongly spiced and overall appetising. But it’s been done before, no matter how good it tastes. Sadly, for the creator of the flavour, this is most likely not my vote.

Fish and Chips:
Very interesting. You can feel the vinegar (surprisingly nice) and the fishiness. Good for some people, but I don’t think that everyone would enjoy it ‘cos of the vinegarness but I liked it. It was odd to see a crisp flavoured with something it was made of (potatoes).

Cajun Squirrel:
Now before eating this I looked on the back to see ingredients. I thankfully found a little note saying ‘No squirrels were harmed in the making of the crisp’. PHEW! (Companies seem to do artificial animal flavourings often as Walkers has a Roasted Chicken packet and my friend who’s a vegetarian eats it and tells me it’s not real chicken.) I love Cajun food and this was no exception. Very spicy, but not for me obviously, (I have taste buds of steel) and a cool idea. Strong contender for my vote.

Builder’s Breakfast:
Oh my goodness, this one’s so cool! You can taste all the bits in a traditional breakfast inside it! The bacon, the eggs, the sausage, etc. I was really impressed with it’s ability to bring across so many foods at once. Delicious! Strong contender as well!

Onion Bhaji:
Hmmm. I’ve gotten to love Indian food lately so I was expecting great things. From the smell it gave off, upon opening the packet, I thought it would be amazing. And I’m not saying it was bad! It was really yummy. But not strong enough. The taste I got from it was very weak. That may just be my tongue but I like something a bit more exciting.

Chilli and Chocolate:
This last one honestly worried me. But tasted bellisimo! I didn’t actually get the taste of chocolate that strongly, which was good ‘cos that might be icky. The crisp taste of spicy chillies (but not in an overpowering ‘pepper’ taste) and cinnamon. A true shower of a love for spice, both sweet and hot. Well I liked it but it’s one that may repulse differently taste bud-ed people.

If you’ve tried them (or not) go on www.walkers.co.uk to vote! And tell me if you thought differently on them!

Hedgehog House #7

Bonjour people of Earth, the universe and Wyoming! In honour of Valentine’s Day, I am putting up a special lovey-dovey hedgehog.

This is Lovebug, pronounced “Wuvbug”. Hoggies like him were being sold in Sainsbury’s (it’s like a british Shoprite) for Valentine’s Day gifts and my mum happened to walk by them. She didn’t pick one up right away but after getting all she needed she walked past the shelf again. There were only 3 left so she decided to get me one with the strict notion of telling me to blog about him on Valentine’s Day.

There’s not much to tell about him yet except for he’s very soft, and my sister had slept with him since he’s been bought basically. Oh, and his name reminds me of a song by the Jonas Brothers. ‘Now I’m speechless over the edge, I’m just breathless I never thought that I’d catch this lovebug again.’ Now I dislike the band quite a bit but I don’t mind this song. I’m not gonna put it up ‘cos I don’t like it THAT much but it’s called Lovebug (SHOCKER!) and should be on youtube.

lovebug
I have no actual plans for V-day but mum and I are going to see a film and I’m meeting up with people next weel instead of Valentine’s…

I’m dreaming of a white…GROUNDHOG DAY!

Posted on February 2, 2009 at 8:24 pm in

I know it’s unlike me to write 3 posts, 3 days running but OH MY JAM! A snow day in England! This defies the laws of rain so common in this lovely country!

So I woke up this morning after my 3rd alarm (I can never get up right away so I press ’snooze’ twice) only to get a phone call from my friend Emily. I call her Lemon but that may confuse people so we’ll stick to EMILY. And she calls me saying ‘Hey! I’m not going into school today!’ and I go ‘Huh?’ (there was some snow yesterday but I didn’t think there would be anything serious) and she says ‘Look outside!’. And I say ‘Wow!’. And she says ‘I know!’. Em then proceeded to tell me that buses and trains weren’t working and this excited me very much. My mother was awaken and told this and she said ‘Right, I’m not digging out the car, you can stay home.’

I would just like to take this moment to say THANK YOU LEMON! If she hadn’t called me, I would’ve gotten dressed for school and gone to the bus stop and stood there for quite a while. And besides, school was closed today due to the SNOW. It’s the first time since 1991! A few poor souls actually came into school unknowing of the cancel-ization of their need to attend today. They just stayed until they could be picked up.

I, on the other hand, spent today making snowmen, snow angels, climbing trees (yes, I can do this even dressed like an Inuit and while branches are covered in snow) and watching TV. It’s been lovely and I hope for the same tomorrow, which is quite possible ‘cos my mum said it’s snowing all WEEK.

Oh, today is Groundhog Day in America by the way. If the little animal didn’t see it’s shadow, he sure was right about 4 more weeks of winter. At least for Britland!

king-george-and-mep.s. This is King George (he’s not the English king, that’s just his name) who we made yesterday as we were worried the snow would all melt.

HELLO PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET. I come in peace! Do not be alarmed by my superior writing skills, I will not harm you…
Sorry but I really did have to get that out of my system. SO!
Due to suggestions by people who will not be mentioned (*cough* Jacob *cough* Esfir), I have changed my theme on my blog. The afore(not)mentioned people pointed out that the font was hard to read. I hope this works better.
Please leave comments on whether you like this new theme which may have little new changes now and again!

p.s. LOOK! In the left hand corner, underneath ‘Recent Posts’ there’s a very pretty little picture. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! Look at the little heart at the end of the phrase ‘City Slicker’ and you may witness something AMAZING.

Hedgehog House #6 plus goin’ to Tara’s

Posted on January 31, 2009 at 6:07 pm in

Yes, I realise that this is basically all my posts are about my lubly hoggies these days, but I’m a very busy person with a huge social life. So meet Chubs who I got in San Gimignano!
My second trip to Italy brought upon a visit to our favourite little city in Tuscany. As we were walking about, as you do, we came across a shop with lots of stuffed toys inside. Well, being a sucker for stuffies, despite my age, I had to go inside! *coughs* I mean, my sister Kimmy dragged me in! We looked around for a while and saw some small animals that we couldn’t decide the species of. Then I looked a bit to the left and WOW! A huge, really fat, extremely cute HEDGEHOG! He was automatically christened Chubs for his chubbiness obviously. He still gets the most attention from people who see my vast collection as he sticks halfway out from the shelf. Below is a picture of me in shock as I hold my newly discovered tenant.

Shocking-it's chubs
So yesterday I went to Blackheath Village, after p.e., as I always do on Friday. I go with the ‘crew’ to a coffee shop called Montepeliers (Montypelios as we call it) and drink milkshakes and eat cupcakes and wait for our guy friends to join us. Then we hang out until people start leaving and I usually end up going to someones house afterwards. (The ride home on my own takes 45 mins to an hour.)
This week, I went to Tara’s! Along with Livi, Anna and Saoirse (Seersha)! We started watching TV and when that didn’t work, put in a DVD. We ended up watching Bridge to Terrabithia, which I LOVE. Somehow, we ended up making the movie funny through our own ways and at some point I put out a candle with my fingers. Livi had the idea first but chickened out and poured milk on the poor candle instead. After that, she decided to relight all the candles. Tara specifically warned her to be careful (we all love Livi but she is a teeny bit of a klutz) and not set fire to anything. Well Livi being herself lit the candles after about 10 minutes only to scream in horror ‘OMG! Tara! I set your candles on fire! I’m so sorry!’. After being stared at for a bit she realised the clever-nosity of her words.
We ate chicken and chips and home-made brownies and oreos and other sweeties and had a great time with loads of prank calls. Can’t wait to host my own one of these things!

Hedgehog House #5, plus my BCG

Posted on January 24, 2009 at 10:06 pm in

Yo my people! Meet Frizzle. I believe he’s the first hedgehog actually bought for my collection. Before that I had Gosha but he was a gift and I wasn’t really collecting. Then I saw this little dude in a little town in Loire Valley. (The location of Frizzle’s adoption had to be discussed for a good 5 minutes by my mother and me before we realised where he was from.) There were about 4 other little statues of the same make in various positions but his spoke to me. I saw him and said ‘Hey, I should really start that collection I was meaning to do. Can I have one?’ My lovely parental figures said yes, probably because he was only 6 euros. The tag is still attached to his bottom for authenticity. Ain’t he a cutie?
frizzle1

Now that you’ve met Frizzle, let me tell you about my recent INJECTION! It’s called a BCG and is against Tuberculosis, whatever that is. On Monday, I had something called a Scratch Test which is an injection that tells me if I actually need a BCG if it becomes a rash (which it didn’t). Well, I missed my appointment for it ‘cos AHEM no one told ME! But I got it done and it’s more painful than the actual immunization shot. Oh, and the lovely lady didn’t put it in properly at first and said (quote) ‘Oh, sorry, I missed. Just have to do it again’. HUH? Are they kidding me? This was an outrage! Trained professionals my arse.

Anyway, as I didn’t get a rash, I had to have my BCG done on Friday. I sat with all the other people in my year (Year 9) who had also missed their injectiony things last year. They were completely terrified and deemed me a freak for being so calm about it. I took no offense from this as it’s true and ‘cos they also said I’m ‘insanely brave’ which was nice. I promised them to go first to say what it’s like. So I went and, after telling me I had apparently ‘perfect’ arms, the ladies giving me the shot decided I was odd as well. They said I was ’strangely calm about all this’ but I could just hear their thoughts saying ‘OMG! What’s wrong with this girl?’

So, after asking me if I was pregnant (which they said they asked boys as well, the freaks) they gave me the shot. The needle was in my arm for a freaking 30 seconds. They kept talking to me during this which I don’t really like as I don’t think they actually care what I say and they’re just trying to distract me from pain. (For the record, I did not cry AT ALL. I only flinched.) After finally removing the needle, they put a cotton swab against the new hole in my arm for two minutes and it STUNG. But it was all okay really and I skipped out from behind the screen dividing the waiting area and injectification area. My classmates stared at me and said to each other but in a way meant towards me ‘And she just skips out, happy as can be!’ And I told them all it was quite long but the Scratch Test was worse.

And that’s how I got my BCG! The ladies told me it might go all weird and scabby in about 2 weeks and I know for a fact that I will always have a mark from it! YAY! Not. But my mum’s is like a beauty spot while my dad’s is as big as a quarter/50 pence coin. Well we’ll see how mine ends up later.

p.s. If you noticed that I put many words in CAPS it doesn’t mean I’m shouting the words, it just means I’m saying them in a different way but not an italic different…if you get what I mean. Which is hard to do as I honestly don’t myself…

Well cheerio my monkey boys!

Now meet Richie, short for Richard but cuter. I got him in the French city/town/tortoise of Reims. I jsut saw him on his widdle dungarees (overalls for Americans) and had to have him! Mind he, he was rather expensive (apparently he’s part of a collectable animal collecty thingy) but he’s worth it. Lovely, cutesy hedgyhoggy thing! He was one of my rather early on hedgehogs and is still one of me favourites!

richie

Well here he is, the charming fellow. But there’s not much more to say about him so HOW ABOUT I sing you all a song/crimp from a lovely show called THE MIGHTY BOOSH!

Bouncy bouncy, ooh such a good time!
Bouncy bouncy, shoes all in a line!
Bouncy bouncy, everybody somersault. Somersault, summertime. Everybody sing along!
Bouncy bouncy, ooh such a good time!
Bouncy bouncy, white socks slipping down!
Bouncy bouncy, stilettos are a no-no!
Bouncy bouncy, OOH! Bouncy bouncy, OOH!
Every time I bounce, I feel I touch the skyyyyyyyy!

There now wasn’t that lovely? I’m glad you liked it…

Back to school. Oh joy. Yay.

Posted on January 6, 2009 at 1:56 pm in

*sighs* So school starts again tomorrow after my long and lovely break (Dec 18 to Jan 7). I can’t wait, really. The joy that fills me must be very obvious. *more sad sighing* Let’s recap what’s happened during the holidays:

I spent a lot of time watching TV with my warm duvet and the CHERUB series books handy for any commercials.

I went to visit our friends in Reading on the 27th and had a sleepover at my house the very same night with Eliza.

I went to see The Tale of Despereux (for free) with 3 of my friends (Eliza, Ella and Bea) and 2 of Kimmy’s plus their mums. This was after barely catching the bus because of good old Ella losing her mums car keys. It’s an okay film but I wouldn’t pay to see it or buy the DVD. (We got free T-shirts and I got one for each of the people in my crew, they were more than happy with them.) That night, Ella slept over and we watched Grease while writing all over a almost blank T-shirt that we plan to share. It will be making an appearance soon.

The O2 was visited my moi and the crew where we gave up on the idea of skating and ate Thai food and saw Yesman instead. Very funny film, gotta love Jim Carrey! After the film, we wandered around and eventually went to Livi’s where we watched pirates of the Caribbean TWO. Yes dad, when I went back to Livi’s, I checked. It was definitely the SECOND movie.

I went shopping with Livi and Tara on New Year’s Eve and bought a Wonder Woman T-shirt while Livi bought a Star Wars one. We plan to interchange them. After shopping, I got my top that Livi had borrowed a few months ago (and never worn) back and went home for a bit.

Then I spent that night at Peter’s with all of the lovely crew.

My New Year’s presents were two Hedgehogs, leg-warmers (which I had asked for), a black cardigan and a light white jacket. All very good presents in my opinion.

On the 3rd on January, another sleepover took place, this time at Anna’s, with (yes you guessed it!) the crew. So we like spending time with each other, sue us! We watched the Eye (not scary at all) and I discovered that I find ’scary’ movies funny. A bit odd, but okay! I was almost the last to fall asleep and that was at a little past 5am, mostly because I was near the talking ones. You see, the sofa had been overtaken by Robbie, who had fallen asleep all spread out. Me and Ella were smooshed so being the kind person I am, I told her I’d sleep on the floor so she’d have more space. She was also whining a lot so this made her be quiet. Oh well, she owes me now so all’s good. ANYWAY, I ended up next to talkier people who told me they went to sleep at 7. We all woke up at 7.46 (I’d checked my watch) so it wasn’t really enough sleep for them but OH WELL! The get-together ended with me accidentally stealing Elliot’s tie.

Everyone went into London yesterday except me for 3 reasons. I had a Typhoid injection for my China trip (Can I just say that my arm still hurts from the stupid shot but the injection itself didn’t!), I’d have to rush to make it and also, I just couldn’t be bothered. Instead, I watched Eragon, 10 Things I hate about you and Evan Almighty. Later on, I went to Eliza’s house to watch her debut on TV in M.I.High. It was cool but she wasn’t in it a lot, she said she will be later on. I’ve decided that I’m watching the show without her from now on as outbursts of “OMG! I’m in this scene!’ so get on the nerves a tad. Love you Eliza!

Right, that’s been my hols and I hope you had some great ones too! To end, here’s a funny rendition of Feliz Navidad (a bit late but who cares) by a brilliant singer, Dave Days who generally makes songs to make fun of Hannah Montana. This song doesn’t, don’t worry. Now you Hannah Montana lovers, I really do like the show but his songs are just brillo! Enjoy:
