My new segments
Oh god, I haven’t written in ages! Oopsy-daisy. Not a lot has really been happening but I have some funky things that have happen-afied…
Randomly, a few weeks ago, my mum said ‘Hey, Eltham College is really close to your school. Why don’t you have a dance with them?’ I thought this was a rather swell idea. I went to our class school councilor and told her to bring it up at a meeting. Next thing I know, we get an assembly telling us to buy the tickets and bring loads of friends! And the dance is only gonna be for us Year 9’s. No other years! WHOOO! And all ’cause of me and my lovely mummy. We are just too brilliant.
I have discovered that I have a talent for self-portraits from mirrors! Whodathunkit? In art, we’re doing a huge project on identity. Last lesson, we put pieces of acetate (plastic) on mirrors and drew right onto them. You had to close one eye to make it in proportion and I found myself very thankful for having a fringe (bangs). While most people had pictures of them with one squinty eye, mine looked normal ’cause the eye I was closing was covered by my fringe! Anyway, these turned out quite good. Then, we had to continue making a normal self-portrait form a mirror. My first attempt, done the lesson before, was disastrous. This lesson, something had changed apparently! You can actually recognise me! I was in shock as my type of art is generally graffiti, not portraits. I may post my drawing on here.
In English, we are making magazines! And my groups is the best ever ’cause we have a cool name. Our mag is called Green Peas. Geddit? Like Greenpeace? It’s kinda like the National Geographic for Kids and is targeted for kids 7-12. It was meant to be 14 but we changed it because I’m apparently the only 14-year-old who, erm, still reads *cough* National Geographic for Kids. =) Well I love it and am not planning to grow out of it for a few more years! *shifty eyes*. The best part of our magazine is an interview with my favourite teacher Mr. Dee! His name’s really Mr Denton but this way is cooler. We ask him the most random questions and it’s really funny. You can tell he was very flattered that we wanted to interview him. Awww. He’s on our front cover. The reasons for this are:
1) It’s a laugh.
2) It’ll bring in all the girls (hahahaha).
3) We’ve got no better ideas.
I’m sure Mr. Denton won’t mind…
On a completely different note, I’m adding 2 new ’segments’ that will appear quite frequently in my blog. One, is lovely youtube videos that I love. Two, is my hedgehog collection. Yes, I collect hedgehogs. Well, I wanted to do something different and I think it’s absolutely spiffing! I’ll put up one hedgehog at a time with their name, place of origin and a bit of info. Eventually, I’ll get through all of them…I hope.
Well cheerio then! I’ll be sure to put up my new segments soon! *runs off to find a Mars Bar to munch*
Aren’t I the Social Butterfly?
This weekend has been just a show of how busy I actually am.
First, on Friday after school, I went to Blackheath Village to Montepeliers with about 3 of my mates. Quick explanation: Blackheath Village is right next to my school and I hang out there every Friday at ‘Montepelios’ cafe with random mates, usually 3-6 of them. After having our milkshakes and cakes, we went to sit on the heath and met up with some guys we knew. The ‘get together’ lasted for a good 4 hours after which I got invited to a Sleepover at my mate Anna’s house. She lives in a huge flat of about 8 rooms with an indoor pool, sauna and restaurant. We mostly listened to music and talked about random girly things. We went to bed at a reasonable hour, for a sleepover at least. It was only12:30am. At around 12:40, my other friend Amy, who went to the heath but couldn’t make the sleepover, called. When we told her we had gone to bed we got severely insulted and hung up.
The next day I went home and watched Minutemen with my sister which is one of my favourite disney channel movies. Then I watched the EMA’s which I’d recorded a few weeks earlier. It was brilliant but Katy Perry is a bad host and sounds wonderful in songs but not live. Sorry Katy! At around 7:40pm my friend Emily called to invite me to see Ghost Town in the cinemas. She also invited me to stay over but I must’ve gotten slight amnesia because I forgot to ask my parents and told her no. After getting to Bluewater Mall, we ate some things at the food court and a hid prawn crackers in my bag so I could eat them in the cinema. Hehe, I’m a baaaad girl. We watched Ghost Town, which is good but has a boring ending. I wouldn’t recommend it. After the film, we waited 20 mins while her mum and mum’s boyfriend finished watching Quantum of Solace. Then I got this great thought. I decided to ask my mother again to see if I could sleep over. (Remember, I’d had amnesia and thought I’d asked her and she’d said no.) She agreed over the phone and I was quite surprised at her ‘change’ of mind but very happy.
At Lemon’s (I call Emily: Lemon) we did excactly what we’d done at Anna’s except we also did some Little Mermaid quiz and looked at fan art of Twilight and Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet. The Twilight drawings are gorgeous! The girl should be famous, they are so good! Anyway, we went to bed at 1:00am which is really early again! Then my mum called me at 10:10am to wake me up! Strange? Yes. Pleasant? No.
I love being busy all the time, but I don’t think my parents like me out of the house so much for some reason… ANYWAY! I’m looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight!

Back from Iceland
I’m am back from the land of the ice and have something to say. You know how everyone says that Greenland is the one with ice and Iceland is the nice one? Yea, that’s not true. It’s freezing and has ice in abundance. The Greenland myth is a lie! Hehe, I must’ve had a lot of sugar today…
I’ll now tell you the important bits about my trip. It wasn’t an early flight there which was very nice, it actually was changed at some point and became even later. After being given 10 pounds to get dinner (our flight was late enough that we would miss the hotel dinner) we all boarded the plane. I was the only one who hadn’t brought my iPod. Well, it did say NOT to but everyone did anyway. And the teachers didn’t even care! (We were given a lot of freedom on this trip but I’ll get back to that later.) The flight was still really fun because we managed to harass some boys and ended up becoming good friends with them and getting their IMs. Good times, good times.
We got to our hotel around midnight but I didn’t actually go to bed till 4am-ish. The rooms were tiny with two people a room. After having our doorbell ding-dong ditched (it’s when people knock on your door, then run away), my roommate, Orla, and I decided to sleep across the hall with our fellow Year 9’s, Tara and Anna. This was, of course, after thinking that they were the ones who knocked and knocking on their door and running. Turns out, we were both pranked upon. Anyway, in that titchy room, the 4 of us stayed up until 4 just talking. Anna and I shared one bed, Tara and Orla shared another. In the morning, when me and Orla went back to our room, our teacher did not even bat an eye. She just asked if we slept well. Freaky.
That day we went to see geysers (I got a video of one exploding) and more Iceland-y things. In the evening we went to the Blue Lagoon. It’s a huge hot spring heated lagoon that is lovely but monstrous for the hair. There’s silica in the water which is a type of mud that we also put on our faces. Your meant to put conditioner in your hair before you go in and we did. It did not help. If you go, either wear a cap or bring your own conditioner and empty it on your head and carry it around with you in the lagoon. TRUST ME. My hair felt horrible when it dried. I took a shower with shampoo (Orla’s, as I forgot to bring some) and it still felt absolutely horrid. It’s okay now ’cause I’ve washed it at home with conditioner.
That night I made some new friends from Newcastle. All of them were boys. We became good friends but what was funny was how our headteacher reacted to us sitting in the lobby with *gasps* boys! She told us ‘Girls, be in your rooms by 10 please’. (This was around 9.40). One of the boys said something like ‘Don’t worry Ms. Laws. We’ll make sure they leave at 10.’ And Ms. Laws was like ‘You lie boy.’ Then to us ‘Girls, be careful with boys who lie.’ Then she just walked off. We were cracking up so much that me and a few other girls fell off the couches. Teachers make me laugh! A couple of my friends and I now have a new catchphrase because the boys wanted to teach us some Newcastle lingo. They taught us how to say ‘I want a drink’. It’s ‘Swig of this’ pronounced SWIG-O-THIS!
The beaches in Iceland have black sand and are very beautiful. I’m ashamed to say that our teachers had to force us out of the minibus in order to see the main beach. We were tired at the time but very glad afterwards because it’s just indescribable. There was snow all around and I made the head of a snowman called Fillbert. He resembles my father quite a bit. Then I made a video on how to make a snowman and then everyone wrote their names in the sand and took pictures. I also wrote Kimmy’s name, just to make her feel like a bit of her as in Iceland. I also had to write SWIG-O-THIS and I did.
The last night before departure, we went ice-skating. I was quite excited to show off my prowess even though I was to wear rented skates. Yea. It was absotively horrid. For one thing, I did wear long socks and now have huge blisters on the front of both of my thighs. (I had decided, cleverly, to wear jeans and I couldn’t bend my knees in long socks.) For another, we had to wear helmets! UGH! For ANOTHER, the skates were so blunt. I managed to do my 2 signature moves: the spread-eagle and the shoot-the-duck. (If anyone wants an explanation to what those are, leave comments asking.) But I couldn’t do spins and I only was able to jump once. The other times I nearly fell, or did fall. People kept showering me in compliments which I would not except. It turns out, many people actually thought I was good. Whodathunkit?
Other things we did were petting wild ponies, going to a wool factory, a greenhouse, a geothermal power station and many waterfalls glaciers and mountains. I loved Iceland but every waterfall and mountain looks the same after a while, sadly. The important thing is to go with the right people and then you’ll have a blast. I would not have changed the group that came with us for anything. A small note: We stayed for 3 full days in Iceland. That is quite enough time to see everything needed, trust me.
I leave you with a picture of Fillbert the Snowman (who looks like my dad)

I made him on the beach
